Early 20th century, in the Ughetto family's home village, Ughettera, Northern Italy. Life in the region had become very difficult and the Ughettos dreamed of a better life abroad. Legend has it that Luigi Ughetto crossed the Alps and started a new life in France, thus changing his beloved family's destiny forever. His grandson retraces their story.
Alain Ughetto (born 1950) is a French author, documentary filmmaker, and animator. He has made several animated shorts, including L’echelle (1981) and La Fleur (1985). Ughetto has also produced films for TV. His latest film, the stop-motion feature No Dogs or Italians Allowed (2022), has picked up several awards, including the Jury Award for Best Feature Film at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival; the Grand Prize for a feature film at Bucheon International Animation Film Festival; and a 2022 European Film Award.
