19th century. A self-taught inventor nicknamed Levsha is recruited to help investigate a mechanical flea found in the chambers of Aleksandr III.
As a result of another outrage by fans of the England national team, which escalated into multi-day clashes, the leadership of European football disqualifies the English from the European Football Cup. Instead, the Russian team enters the final stage. The Russian Football Federation has only two weeks to assemble a team. Head coach Sorokin and his assistant Mikhalych invite to the team the football players who have today become "downed pilots": forwards Matveev and Sanaev are under investigation for a fight, defender Bushagov, after a loud scandal, is divorcing his wife, who demands huge alimony, young forward Kizyakov because of of his character sits on a bench and so on. They all lost the opportunity to play, earn big money, be idols and real stars. But Sorokin's plan - to give them a chance to return to their former life - does not work: the new team cannot work together, each player pursues his own goals, and therefore they do not form a team.
A Russian missile submarine disappears without trace during a secret mission in the Greenland Sea. All this could have happened only at the turn of the century, when the Soviet system instantly went out of fashion, replaced by the lightning invasion of the Western world in a grotesque parody. The main character of the film is an inconspicuous girl Nadezhda Strakhova. Nadezhda, oddly enough, is married. Her husband, Vitalik, a provincial, married a childless Nadezhda for the sake of a Moscow residence permit and a typical "Khrushchev" on the outskirts of Moscow. Nadezhda works two jobs to support her small family: in the mornings in the district library and in the evenings in the theater wardrobe. One day her life changes dramatically.
Moscow, 1930s. A prominent writer's works are suddenly censored by the Soviet state and the premiere of his theatrical play about Pontius Pilate is canceled. He's kicked out of the Soviet Writer's Union, and quickly turns into an outcast with no means to survive. Inspired by Margarita - his lover, he begins working on a new novel in which all the characters are satirically reinterpreted from his life. The novel's central character is Woland - a mystical dark force who visits Moscow to revenge all those who caused the writer's downfall. As the Master sinks himself deeper and deeper into his novel, adding himself and Margarita as characters, he gradually stops noticing as the border between reality and his imagination fades away.
