Kat Ruston is an artist based in Vancouver. Her look is from a mixed heritage of Chinese, Spanish, and Filipino. Growing up as an only child, Ruston kept herself busy with manga and video games since she never felt like she was accepted by her peers. However, she was a gifted athlete and ultimately found her niche as a "tomboy". In 2005, she attended a talent search in Las Vegas, where she acquired a scholarship to attend The New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts. Due to bad timing, she continued with her academic studies at Vancouver Island University; however, she only felt regret for not taking advantage of the opportunity. In 2009, she made a bold move and relocated to Vancouver where she landed work in the Lighting Department. Her experience as a Lighting Technician humbled her perspective and she learned a new love for painting movies with lights and shadows. She is very grateful for the "behind the scenes" work she learned and believes it truly made her understand the value of what happens in a production.
