Registration of the live concert by the Dutch singer Wende Snijders. Back to her musical core and an ode to playfulness, that is what singer and musician Wende wanted. In October 2024, her concert series Vrijplaats ('Free space') started in Carré, which brought her back to basics: two pianos, Wende's voice, pianist Nils Davidse and a surprising guest artist every evening. Now there is the live recording of her show with guests: Merol, Froukje and Sef.
Yous and Yay receive guests they admire and explore their inspiration and motivations in personal conversations. Yous and Yay delve deeper into the fascinations of their conversation partners via rabbit holes. These take the viewer to the history of the Wuppies, the French cult film ‘La Haine’, street poetry in Rotterdam, the video clips of Missy Elliott and the cultural heritage of the song ‘You’ll never walk alone’. Each and every one of them is a side path that surprises, amazes, provides context or inspires. Yous and Yay, the two homo universales of the Dutch cultural scene, have been pioneering creators for years within and outside their own range of disciplines (music, literature, film, graphic design). Yous & Yay in the wild abandons the idea of what a cultural programme should be and navigates right through all genres, disciplines and other cultural pigeonholes.
Today is an important day in the agenda of singer Wende. Her show Vrijplaats premieres in the Royal Theater Carré in Amsterdam, a concert that she will perform no less than 22 times and that brings her back to the basics: two pianos and a song. But don't think that this is just a matter of sitting and playing. The documentary about Vrijplaats shows what the creative process of months leading up to the big premiere looks like. With guest appearances by Maan and Merol and a role as art director for Sef.
